Best Uses for World of Hyatt Points in 2026: What 2 Cents Looks Like Under the Five-Level Chart
Hyatt points are the most valuable hotel currency in the US, but since May 2026 the same hotel can cost anywhere from 3,000 to 75,000 points depending on the date. The full chart, where the points come from (Chase, Bilt, the card, buying), every redemption ranked by cents per point, and the hotels where 2 cents is easy.
The short version
World of Hyatt is the last big US hotel program with a published award chart, which is the whole reason its points are worth 2 cents each when Marriott’s and Hilton’s are worth well under 1. Since May 20, 2026 that chart has five price levels inside each category instead of three, and the level now matters as much as the category: the same Category 5 hotel costs 15,000 points on a Lowest date and 35,000 on a Top date.
So the rule for 2026 is two-part. Pick an expensive hotel in a cheap category, and then pick a cheap date inside it. Do both and 3 cents per point is routine. Do neither and you can land under 1.
| How you spend them | Cents per point | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Standard room, expensive hotel, Lowest/Low date | 2.5–5+ | The reason to hold Hyatt points |
| All-inclusive resort, Lowest/Low date, two adults | 2–4 | Strong, because food and drink are in the price |
| Standard room, Top date | 1–2 | Only if the cash rate is also at its peak |
| Standard or premium suite award | 1.5–3 | Good at resorts where suites are the point |
| Points + Cash | Points saved at ~1–1.5¢ | A way to stretch a short balance, not a value play |
| Mr & Mrs Smith, Under Canvas, Homes & Hideaways | About 1.2–1.4 | Dynamic pricing, no sweet spots |
| Dining, spa, FIND experiences | About 1–1.5 | The floor; pay cash instead |
| Convert to airline miles | 0.4 at best | Never |
This guide covers the chart, where points come from, every redemption in that table, and the hotels where the top rows are easy to find. If what you’re holding is a free night certificate rather than points, the Category 1-4 and Category 1-7 guides are the ones you want.
The 2026 chart
Standard room, points per night, since May 20, 2026:
| Category | Lowest | Low | Moderate | Upper | Top |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 3,000 | 4,500 | 6,000 | 7,500 | 9,000 |
| 2 | 6,000 | 7,500 | 10,000 | 12,000 | 15,000 |
| 3 | 8,000 | 12,000 | 15,000 | 17,500 | 20,000 |
| 4 | 12,000 | 15,000 | 20,000 | 22,500 | 25,000 |
| 5 | 15,000 | 20,000 | 25,000 | 30,000 | 35,000 |
| 6 | 20,000 | 25,000 | 30,000 | 35,000 | 40,000 |
| 7 | 25,000 | 30,000 | 35,000 | 45,000 | 55,000 |
| 8 | 35,000 | 45,000 | 55,000 | 65,000 | 75,000 |
Three things to read off it:
- The old “standard” price is now the Low level, and the old “peak” is now roughly Upper. A Category 4 hotel that cost 15,000 on a normal night still does, but only on Low dates. Moderate is 20,000. Hyatt said the point of five levels was to “manage peak demand more precisely,” which in practice means the busy dates got a lot more expensive and the dead dates got a little cheaper.
- The spread widens as you go up. Category 1 swings 3x between Lowest and Top; Category 8 swings more than 2x but in absolute terms that’s a 40,000-point gap. Date flexibility is worth the most at expensive hotels.
- Free night certificates ignore the levels. A Category 1-4 certificate books a Category 4 hotel on a Top date and replaces 25,000 points. That’s why, under this chart, certificates should go to Top dates and points to Lowest dates.
Suites, club rooms and the all-inclusive brands have parallel charts. Standard suites run from 6,000 (Category 1, Lowest) to 96,000 (Category 8, Top); premium suites from 8,000 to 110,000; club rooms sit a little above standard rooms. The all-inclusive chart, per room with two adults:
| All-inclusive category | Lowest | Low | Moderate | Upper | Top |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | 12,000 | 15,000 | 20,000 | 22,500 | 25,000 |
| B | 15,000 | 20,000 | 25,000 | 30,000 | 35,000 |
| C | 20,000 | 25,000 | 30,000 | 35,000 | 40,000 |
| D | 25,000 | 30,000 | 35,000 | 45,000 | 55,000 |
| E | 35,000 | 45,000 | 55,000 | 65,000 | 75,000 |
| F | 45,000 | 55,000 | 65,000 | 75,000 | 85,000 |
Miraval, Hyatt’s three wellness resorts, has its own chart that includes meals and activities: 40,000 to 75,000 points a night for one guest in a standard room and 60,000 to 95,000 for two.
Hyatt doesn’t publish which dates fall at which level. The only way to know is to search with “Use Points” toggled on and read the price. A night or two of flexibility in either direction frequently drops a level.
Where the points come from
| Source | Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel stays | 5 points per $1, plus 10/20/30% for Discoverist/Explorist/Globalist | Hyatt Studios earns 2.5; Mr & Mrs Smith and Under Canvas earn 5 when booked through Hyatt |
| World of Hyatt Credit Card | 4 points per $1 at Hyatt (9 with the base points), 2 on dining, airfare, transit and gym, 1 elsewhere | Also 5 elite nights a year, 2 more per $5,000 spent, and a Category 1-4 free night each anniversary |
| Chase Ultimate Rewards | 1:1 from Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business; 4:3 from Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred | Transfers post in minutes; one-way; 1,000-point minimum |
| Bilt Rewards | 1:1 through December 31, 2026; 4:3 from January 1, 2027 | Instant; the cut was announced October 1, 2026 and applies to every Bilt card, Palladium included. Move Bilt points you intend for Hyatt before year-end |
| Buying points | List price about 2.6 cents; 20–25% sales roughly quarterly bring it to about 2 cents | Cap 55,000 points per calendar year; the last sale ended October 5, 2026 |
| Milestone rewards | 5,000 to 10,000 bonus points as an option at 40, 50, 70, 80, 90, 100 and 150 nights | Usually the wrong choice; see below |
Two lines in that table changed this year, both in the same direction. The Sapphire Preferred and Ink Preferred moved to 4:3 on October 1, 2026, which quietly cuts every number in this guide by 25 percent if those are your transfer cards: a 15,000-point Lowest night in Category 5 now costs 20,000 Chase points. The Sapphire Reserve keeps 1:1. If you hold both a Preferred and a Reserve in the household, move the points to the Reserve before transferring. Bilt follows on January 1, 2027, so a Bilt balance earmarked for Hyatt should be transferred in December at the latest; after that the Sapphire Reserve and the Hyatt card itself are the only 1:1 routes left.
There is no path from Amex, Citi or Capital One. That’s why Hyatt points have the “last unicorn” reputation: the supply is narrow, so the sweet spots stay bookable.
Points expire after 24 months of no activity, and anything counts as activity, including sharing points to another member (free, once every 30 days). Purchased points post within about a day but don’t count as base points toward status.

The redemptions, ranked
1. A standard room at a hotel that’s expensive for its category
This is 80 percent of the value in the program and the only thing most people need to know. The chart prices by category, not by what the hotel actually charges, so the money is in hotels whose cash rate is high relative to their category: a Park Hyatt at Category 3 or 4, a convention hotel on a convention week, a beach resort in high season that Hyatt left at Category 5.
Then there’s the level. The arithmetic of the five-level chart means a Category 5 hotel at $500 a night is 3.3 cents on a Lowest date and 1.4 cents on a Top date. Same hotel, same cash rate, 2.3x difference. When you have any flexibility at all, search a week either side.
Two rules that make this work:
- Resort and destination fees are waived on award nights. At a Hawaii or Las Vegas resort that’s $40 to $60 a night you’d otherwise pay, so compare your points against the all-in cash rate.
- There’s no fifth night free. Every night costs full points. Hyatt’s per-night prices are low enough that it still beats a Marriott five-for-four at a comparable hotel, but don’t plan a week assuming a discount that isn’t there.
2. All-inclusive resorts for two
Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection (Ziva, Zilara, Secrets, Dreams, Zoëtry, Impression, Breathless, Sunscape, Alua, Bahia Principe) prices per room for two adults with all food and drink included. That’s what makes the value easy: a Dreams or Secrets resort in Category C at 20,000 to 25,000 points on a Lowest or Low date against a cash rate of $500 to $700 for two is 2 to 3.5 cents, and you’ve also removed the single biggest variable cost of a beach week.
The flagships are the expensive end. Hyatt Ziva Cancun sits at Category E, so 35,000 on a Lowest date against about $700 cash, still 2 cents. Impression Moxché is Category F at 45,000 to 85,000. Check the letter before you plan: several Secrets and Dreams resorts moved up a letter in May 2026, and a Top date at Category E (75,000) costs more than a Category 8 Park Hyatt.
Two non-beach resorts belong in this bucket too. Alila Ventana Big Sur is Category 8 but includes all meals and drinks, and its cash rate runs $1,500 to $3,000 a night, so even 55,000 points on a Moderate date is 3 cents or more. Miraval includes meals, activities and a spa credit and prices $1,200 and up on cash.
3. Suite awards
Suite awards are worth looking at under the new chart because the suite premium is fixed. In Category 6 a standard suite costs 15,000 more points than a standard room at every level; in Category 4 it’s 9,000. At a resort where the suite is the reason you’re going, say a one-bedroom at a beach Park Hyatt that cashes for 2x the standard room, the suite award is often the better deal per point than the room.
Globalists can skip this: Suite Upgrade Awards, offered as a milestone choice from 40 nights and issued automatically at 60, confirm a standard suite on a points booking for up to seven nights at the standard-room price. They work on cash and points stays, not on free night certificates.
4. Points + Cash
Half the points of a full award plus a cash payment that Hyatt pegs at roughly 30 to 50 percent of the standard rate. Work it backward and the points you’re not spending are being sold to you at 1 to 1.5 cents each, which is cheaper than buying points even on sale. Use it when you’re 5,000 points short of a booking you want. Don’t use it to “save points” when you have plenty; it’s a loan at a decent rate, not a discount. Points + Cash stays earn points on the cash portion and count as qualifying nights.
5. Partner brands at dynamic prices
Mr & Mrs Smith (about 700 boutique hotels), Under Canvas glamping, Homes & Hideaways rentals and Lindblad expeditions all redeem at a rate tied to the cash price, around 1.3 to 1.4 cents for Smith and Under Canvas and 1.2 for Homes & Hideaways. These are places to earn and to use the free night certificate’s cash-rate logic, not places to burn points. The exception is a Smith hotel in a city with no Hyatt, where 1.4 cents on a trip you were taking anyway beats letting points expire.
6. The floor: dining, spa, experiences, miles
In-room and dining credits run from 1,000 points for $10 up to 65,000 for $1,000, so 1 to 1.5 cents. FIND experiences land around 1.4. Converting to airline miles is 5,000 Hyatt points for 2,000 miles, or 0.4 cents a point at a generous mile valuation. All of these are below what Chase or Bilt would have given you by just not transferring. The only reason to use points this way is a balance about to expire, and a single points share fixes that.
Best uses by category
Cash figures are samples from 2026 searches and move with dates. Cents per point is the cash rate divided by the Lowest-level points, so it’s the ceiling for that hotel; a Top date roughly halves it.
Category 1-4: the volume play
| Hotel | Category | Lowest points | Cash sample | Cents at Lowest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Park Hyatt Suzhou | 3 | 8,000 | About $210 | 2.6 |
| Park Hyatt Jakarta | 3 | 8,000 | About $215 | 2.7 |
| Grand Hyatt Shanghai (Jin Mao Tower) | 3 | 8,000 | About $210 | 2.6 |
| Grand Hyatt Taipei | 3 | 8,000 | About $315 | 3.9 |
| Hyatt Regency Chicago | 4 | 12,000 | $450+ on convention dates | 3.7 |
| Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach | 4 | 12,000 | About $300 plus resort fee | 2.5+ |
| Park Hyatt Siem Reap | 4 | 12,000 | About $280–450 | 2.3–3.7 |
| Park Hyatt Doha | 4 | 12,000 | About $175–210 | 1.5–1.7 |
| Grand Hyatt Macau | 4 | 12,000 | About $500 weekends | 4.2 |
| Andaz Mexico City Condesa | 4 | 12,000 | About $300–400 | 2.5–3.3 |
| Park Hyatt Mendoza | 4 | 12,000 | About $250–500 | 2.1–4.2 |
| Dream Nashville | 4 (down from 5 in May 2026) | 12,000 | $400+ on event weekends | 3.3+ |
The point of this tier isn’t any single hotel. It’s that a 60,000-point Chase bonus is five to seven nights here, and Category 1 and 2 Hyatt Places and Regencies in US cities on a conference week routinely clear 3 cents.
Category 5-6: the cities
| Hotel | Category | Lowest points | Cash sample | Cents at Lowest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hyatt Centric Delfina Santa Monica | 5 (down from 6) | 15,000 | $500+ in summer | 3.3+ |
| Andaz West Hollywood | 5 (down from 6) | 15,000 | About $400 | 2.7 |
| The Time New York | 5 (down from 6) | 15,000 | About $350–450 | 2.3–3.0 |
| Park Hyatt Beijing / Park Hyatt Shanghai | 5 | 15,000 | About $350–450 | 2.3–3.0 |
| Park Hyatt Chicago | 6 | 20,000 | About $880 | 4.4 |
| Andaz Lisbon | 6 | 20,000 | About €446 | 2.4 |
| Hyatt Centric Reykjavík | 6 | 20,000 | $400+ in summer | 2.0+ |
| Great Scotland Yard Hotel, London | 6 | 20,000 | £400+ | 2.5+ |
| Park Hyatt Toronto | 6 | 20,000 | About CA$716 | 2.6 |
Three of those Category 5 hotels dropped a category in May 2026; the big-city Park Hyatts in China have sat at Category 5 for years. If you want a Park Hyatt for 15,000 points, this is where they are.
Category 7-8: where 4 cents lives
| Hotel | Category | Lowest points | Cash sample | Cents at Lowest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Park Hyatt St. Kitts | 7 | 25,000 | About $739 | 3.0 |
| Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa | 7 | 25,000 | $650–2,000+ | 2.6–8 |
| Park Hyatt Aviara (Carlsbad, CA) | 7 | 25,000 | $700+ | 2.8+ |
| Park Hyatt Vienna | 7 | 25,000 | About $520–740 | 2.1–3.0 |
| Alila Mayakoba | 7 (up from 6) | 25,000 | About $600 | 2.4 |
| Park Hyatt Marrakech | 7 | 25,000 | About $570 | 2.3 |
| Alila Ventana Big Sur (meals included) | 8 | 35,000 | $1,500–3,000+ | 4.3–8.6 |
| Park Hyatt Tokyo | 8 | 35,000 | $700–1,200+ | 2.0–3.4 |
| Andaz Maui at Wailea | 8 | 35,000 | $900+ plus resort fee | 2.6+ |
| Park Hyatt New York | 8 | 35,000 | $1,000+ | 2.9+ |
| Park Hyatt Sydney | 8 | 35,000 | A$1,200+ | 2.3+ |
This is also where the Top level hurts most. Park Hyatt Maldives at 55,000 on a Top date against $900 cash is 1.6 cents, below what you’d get at a Hyatt Place in Chicago. For these hotels the search isn’t “is there a room,” it’s “which dates are Lowest or Low.”
All-inclusive
| Resort | Category | Lowest points (2 adults) | Cash sample | Cents at Lowest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dreams and Secrets resorts, Mexico and Caribbean | B–C | 15,000–20,000 | $400–700 | 2.5–3.5 |
| Hyatt Ziva Cancun | E | 35,000 | About $700 | 2.0 |
| Impression Moxché (Playa del Carmen) | F | 45,000 | $1,200+ | 2.7+ |
| Alila Ventana Big Sur | 8 (meals included) | 35,000 | $1,500+ | 4.3+ |
| Miraval Arizona / Austin / Berkshires (two guests) | Miraval | 60,000 | $1,200+ | 2.0+ |
Milestone awards, briefly
If you stay enough to hit milestones, most of the points-related choices are traps. The 5,000-point option at 40 and 50 nights is worth $100 at our valuation; the Suite Upgrade Award you’d give up for it confirms a suite for up to seven nights and is worth several hundred dollars at any resort. The 10,000-point option at 70 nights and above loses to a Guest of Honor award the same way. Take the points only if you have no stays planned before the awards would expire (end of the year earned, plus 14 months).
Guest of Honor is the one to understand if you’re not a Globalist yourself: it lets the earner gift Globalist benefits (upgrade, breakfast or lounge, waived resort fee, 4pm checkout) to any one booking of up to seven nights, cash or points. It doesn’t apply to free night certificate stays, and it can’t be stacked with a Suite Upgrade Award.
The traps
- Top dates at aspirational hotels. The May 2026 chart was built to charge more on the dates everyone wants. Cherry blossom week at Park Hyatt Tokyo is 75,000; a random Tuesday in June is 35,000. Points go to the Tuesday, certificates go to the cherry blossoms.
- Sapphire Preferred transfers at 4:3, and Bilt will too. Every cents-per-point figure in this guide is in Hyatt points. If you’re transferring from a Preferred or Ink Preferred now, or from Bilt after January 1, 2027, multiply the points cost by 1.33 before deciding.
- No fifth night free, no room for two rooms. A family of five at a Category 6 resort is two rooms at full price each night.
- All-inclusive letters moved. Several Secrets and Dreams resorts went up a letter in May 2026. A resort you priced at Category B last year may be C now.
- Residences and villas. Hyatt Vacation Club, Residences and some all-villa properties don’t sell standard rooms, so they show no award availability at all.
- Points + Cash isn’t a discount. You’re buying the points you don’t spend at 1 to 1.5 cents. Fine when short, pointless when not.
- Buying at list price. 2.6 cents a point only makes sense if you’re closing a specific 4-cent booking. Wait for the quarterly 20 to 25 percent sale.
- Airline conversions. 5,000 points for 2,000 miles. There is no airline redemption that rescues that ratio.
Our take
Hyatt points are worth 2 cents because the chart makes 2 cents easy, not because every redemption gets there. In 2026 the chart punishes the obvious booking, a famous hotel on a famous date, and rewards the slightly less obvious one, the same hotel three weeks later or the Category 4 Park Hyatt nobody has heard of. Transfer from the Sapphire Reserve at 1:1 (and from Bilt only until December 31, 2026), search with points on and a week of slack, and use the certificates for the dates the points can’t afford.
If you track your Hyatt card’s free night, elite night credits and the $15,000 spend threshold in MaxWorth, the app shows the certificate’s expiration alongside the card’s other credits; the points side still lives at hyatt.com, and this guide is for that half.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a World of Hyatt point worth?
MaxWorth values it at 2 cents, and that's a floor you can reliably hit, not an average. A standard room at a hotel whose cash rate is $300 or more, booked on a Lowest or Low date in Category 1 through 5, usually lands between 2 and 3 cents. Expensive Category 7 and 8 hotels on Lowest dates reach 3 to 5 cents. Dining credits, FIND experiences and airline transfers pay 1 to 1.5 cents or less, which is why you don't use points for those.
What changed in Hyatt's award chart in May 2026?
Each of the eight categories went from three price levels (off-peak, standard, peak) to five: Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper and Top. Floors dropped slightly, ceilings rose a lot. Category 1 now runs 3,000 to 9,000 points a night, Category 8 runs 35,000 to 75,000, and all-inclusive Category F tops out at 85,000. The old peak price is now roughly the Upper level, so the top of each category is 40 to 67 percent more expensive than it was.
Do Chase points still transfer 1:1 to Hyatt?
From the Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business, yes. From the Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred it has been 4:3 since October 1, 2026, so 1,000 Chase points become 750 Hyatt points. Bilt transfers 1:1 through December 31, 2026 and moves to 4:3 on January 1, 2027, announced October 1 with no exemption for any Bilt card tier. There is no transfer path from Amex, Citi or Capital One.
Should I use Points + Cash?
Only when you'd run short of points otherwise. Points + Cash charges half the points of a full award plus a cash amount that Hyatt sets at roughly 30 to 50 percent of the standard rate, so the points you save are effectively being bought at about 1 to 1.5 cents each. That's a fair price if the alternative is buying points at 2 cents, and a bad one if you have plenty of points.
Does Hyatt offer a fifth night free?
No. Unlike Marriott and Hilton, every night on a Hyatt award stay costs full points. The compensation is that Hyatt's per-night prices are far lower than its competitors' for comparable hotels, and resort fees are waived on every award night.
Is it worth buying Hyatt points?
At list price, about 2.6 cents, no. During the 20 to 25 percent sales Hyatt runs roughly once a quarter the price drops to about 2 cents, which only makes sense when you're topping off for a specific booking that redeems at 3 cents or more. The cap is 55,000 points per calendar year, and purchased points don't count toward status.
Do Hyatt points expire?
After 24 months with no activity. Earning, redeeming, buying, transferring in from Chase or Bilt, or sharing points to another member all reset the clock, so a single small transfer keeps a balance alive.
